The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced changes to bus routes used by many of our members.
Reflecting changes to travel patterns during the pandemic, the opening of the Elizabeth Line and increases in walking and cycling, the modifications are overall more limited than initially proposed. For example route 98 will now have no change and will continue to go along Oxford Street, rather than down Park Lane to Victoria.
Route 6 is now to go to Victoria, being a change to the previous proposal to re-route it along Oxford Street. At present it goes to Piccadilly Circus.
Route 23 will be rerouted from Hyde Park Corner towards Piccadilly Circus and Aldwych, along the present route of the 6. That means that those now boarding the 6 at points north of the junction with Praed Street, and going beyond Hyde Park Corner, will have to change to the 23 at a stop between Praed Street and the London Hilton.
The ‘summary of decisions’ also confirms that route 332 is be renumbered as 16, but will keep its present route to a terminus at Paddington.
Thank you to John Walton, Secretary of PRACT (Paddington Residents’ Active Concern on Transport) for his comments on the plans. incorporated above.
