We at the HPEA are represented on the Hyde Park Paddington Neighbourhood Forum

This is a body representing local residents, businesses and landowners which was set up under the Localism Act to develop a Local Plan, which, alongside the Mayor’s London Plan and Westminster council’s City Plan, will have to be considered in determining  planning applications.

Recently the Forum was awarded up to £45,000 towards the costs of expert support in developing the Local Plan. The Plan aims to make the area a better place to live and do business, by means of measures which could include, for example, controls on food takeaway pick up on Praed St, better air quality monitoring, better walking routes and lighting. The funding comes from the “Community Infrastructure Levy,” contributions which property developers have to pay. It will go towards creating opportunities for local residents to have a say on the proposed options. We’ll keep you updated on these.

In other news, new black cab fares have been approved by the Mayor with effect from 29th April. These do not yet appear to be on the TfL website but here is the gist: 

We have decided to introduce a modified version of one of the options (Option 3): Freeze the minimum fare at £3.80  Increase Tariffs 1, 2 and 3 by 7.61 per cent (the drivers’ operating costs part of the Cost Index) Freeze Tariff 4 Tariff 3 operates at night and has been frozen for several years. We are increasing Tariff 3 as some respondents to the consultation told us that this could now be impacting availability as some taxi drivers may no longer work at night, and a reduction in available taxis at night impacts on users. We also consulted on two other proposals and are proceeding with these. These are:  Removing the requirement for the extra charge for booked taxis to be added to the taximeter Increasing some of the fixed fares from the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, and amending one of the authorised  places where the fixed-fare, shared-taxi scheme operates from during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships The changes to Tariffs 1, 2 and 3, and the extra charge for booked taxis come into effect on Saturday 29 April 2023.
