I am very pleased to let you know that we have two very important and interesting members’ get togethers at Abasto arranged for the coming weeks.
1) A Special Meeting to discuss your views on the current Westminster City Council Cycle Highway 43 consultation on the Hyde Park to Marylebone cycle route which runs through our area. The consultation opened on 15th May and continues until 11 June. The route involves widening pavements to improve cyclist safety and the closure of Stanhope Place south of Connaught Square to vehicles. This is intended to improve the safety of cyclists leaving and joining the cycle routes in Hyde Park. The route was previously approved by WCC in 2021 and has now had some modifications. It will also have implications for car drivers and pedestrians on the Hyde Park Estate so the proposals will be of interest to everyone. More information and a chance to respond to the consultation can be found at
The HPEA would like to hear your views on the proposed route and to give you a chance to discuss it with your HPEA committee members and neighbours on the Estate. To this end we have arranged a special meeting on Tuesday 6th June at Abasto, 55-57 Connaught at 6.30pm. Sally Martin, Chair of the HPEA Transport Committee will host the evening and would very much like to hear your views.
There will also be a chance at this meeting to find out more about the ad hoc closures of Lancaster Gate Tube Station and the future implications that these may have, as well as to discuss any other transport issues that you would like to raise.
2) Update on the Paddington Square (‘the Cube’) Development. Jonathan Ring, Development Director of Sellar, the developers of Paddington Square, has kindly agreed to give us an update on the progress of the development next to Paddington Station now that it is nearing completion. You may remember that in May 2021 during Covid Jonathan gave us a fascinating talk on zoom about the plans for the site, and now we are very lucky to hear him once again (in person this time) with an update on its progress. We will meet on Tuesday 13th June at Abasto, 55-57 Connaught Street at 6.30pm and I am sure Jonathan will be happy to answer your questions and give us an insight as to what we can expect from this wonderful addition to our area.
Please do come along to Abasto on both of these evening to meet with your neighbours and to discuss the local issues which affect us all. As usual wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks will be available as well as Abasto’s delicious food. We look forward to seeing you.
